  • Neath Port Talbot branch announce Pub of the Year Thursday 8 February 2018

    Neath Port Talbot CAMRA announce the results of their Pub of the Year (PoTY) Competition: The results are:

    Pub of the Year - The Ancient Briton - Abercrave

    2nd Place - The Pontardawe Inn (Y Gwachel)

    3rd Place - The Corner House, Ystalyfera

    The Competition for the Cider PoTY also resulted in the same 3 pubs coming in at the same relative positions, namely:

    1st: The Ancient Briton - Abercrave

    2nd:The Pontardawe Inn (Y Gwachel)

    3rd:The Corner House, Ystalyfera

  • NPT CAMRA Branch PoTY Presentation Date Announced Thursday 8 February 2018

    The PoTY Award Presentation will be held at the Ancient Briton on 14 May 2018 at 7:30p.m.

  • Club of the Year - News from Chris Gillette Thursday 30 March 2017

    Judging for the South Wales area contestants for this competition can start immediately.

    The branch nominations are:

    Gwent: Sebastopol Social Club (Wern Rd, NP45DU; GBG17, page 592)

    Mid Glamorgan: Real Ale Farm (Gilfach Fargoed Fawr Farm, Cardiff Rd, Bargoed CF81 8NY; GBG17, page 578)

    Vale of Glamorgan & Bridgend: Barry West End Club (54 St Nicholas Rd, CF62 6QY; GBG17, page 574)

    As with the POTY competition there are some things to note:

    1. Branches are not to judge their own entries, this is to be consistent with national area judging.

    2. The deadline to complete judging is Monday 12 June - results to be notified to me please.

    3. Don't get caught out, check opening times in WhatPub before travelling.

    A copy of the national judging form with guidance notes is attached but note that unless judges have a detailed knowledge of how a club operates they may choose to judge against the first five criteria only.

    With spring in the air our thoughts turn to judging the South Wales area contestants for this year's competition, which can start immediately.

    The winner will go forward to the area head-to-head against the winners of the north and west Wales competitions to determine this year's Welsh POTY.

    The next meeting of the Branch will be held on Monday 8th May at the Lord Caradoc (A Lloyds No. 1 Bar ) Port Talbot, at 19:30.

    (This notice corrects the misinformation that the next Branch meeting was to be held at the Pontardawe Inn)

  • Neath Port Talbot Pub of the Year 2017 & Cider Pub of the Year 2017 Wednesday 1 March 2017

    At the meeting held on 27 February at the Bank Statement, Swansea held jointly with the Swansea CAMRA Branch, The Pontardawe Inn was selected as the NPT Branch Pub of the Year (POTY). The Ancient Briton, Abercrave and the Wern fawr, Ystalyfera came in second and third places respectively.

    In a separate vote, the Ancient Briton was voted in as the NPT Branch Cider Pub of the Year.

    The Swansea CAMRA Branch POTY was The Queens in SA1.
